What is Human – Type Ceramide?
Ceramides are biogenic components found in the skin’s outer layer. Its function is to protect against moisture loss to keep the skin both youthful and supple. The loss of ceramides causes aging skin to become impermeable to moisture, leaving it dry and defenseless. The largest organ in the human body is the skin, with the outermost layer being the stratum corneum. Ceramide accounts for 50% of the intercellular lipid matrix, the “glue” that binds the stratum corneum, the foremost protective barrier that protects underlying tissue from dehydration, infection, and external injury.
